Tramadol for patients information

Home  /  Tramadol for patients information

Tramadol use is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected GI obstruction, including paralytic ileus. Due to the outcomes of opioid agonists on the gastrointestinal tract, tramadol should be used cautiously in patients with pre-existing biliary tract or GI disease, ulcerative colitis (UC), or pre-existing constipation. Patients with UC and other inflammatory bowel disease might be more understanding of the constipating effects of opioid agonists. Also, use with caution in patients with pancreatic or biliary tract disease, including acute pancreatitis, as mu-opioid agonists can cause spasm with the sphincter of Oddi.
